WELCOME TO THE 38TH ANNUAL summer chamber music festival on Martha’s Vineyard. We have arranged to bring to the island musicians and music from all over the world. Our season begins with Russia’s famous St. Petersburg String Quartet, followed by the incomparable American jazz pianist-composer Billy Childs and the exciting Infiniti Brass. In a program highlight, Billy and the brass quintet will play his own composition which has received rave reviews across the country. A European ensemble transports us with classics of the 19th Century by Mendelssohn and Franck, then what would make this summer perfect but beautiful French music performed by an equally beautiful harpist. Our grand finale for the season will be unquestionably sensational. We have a world premiere by acclaimed American composer Morton Subotnick, one of this country’s most exciting musicians, paired with a performance of Igor Stravinsky’s Faustian fable, “Histoire du Soldat”, in which a soldier promises his life to the devil if he could play the violin. Performing this epic work will be outstanding players from New York’s Metropolitan Opera Orchestra assisted by Bryan Torfeh from the Royal Shakespeare Company.
How can you miss a single concert? I certainly won’t!
See you there,
